L'articolo che stabilisce l'entrata in vigore di una nuova edizione del codice ASME si trova in ASME Sec. I, Mandatory Appendix VI "Enstablishing governing code editions, addenda, and cases for boilers and replacement parts", paragrafo VI-1 "General":
After Code revisions are approved by ASME, they may be used beginning with the date of issuance shown on the code. Except as noted below,revisions become mandatory 6 months after the date of issuance.
Il codice è dunque utilizzabile a partire dalla data di pubblicazione, ad esempio 1 luglio 2021 per l'edizione 2021.
Diventa obbligatorio sei mesi dopo tale data, ad esempio 1 gennaio 2021 per l'edizione 2021.
